Does reloading ammunition save me money?
Is reloading cheaper than buying ammo?
The age old question. The thing that initially got us all to this point. “If you reload, it’ll save you big time!”. There are a lot of variables to this question. Let’s break down a few.
We’ll start out with how I learned to reload - straight walled .45acp cases on a Dillon 550. Fat slick machine, progressive press, not many bells and whistles. You load in a case, pull the handle, move the case to the next station and repeat. Manually. Each time, carefully placing a bullet atop a primed, powdered casing. Rinse and repeat.
The initial investment isn’t gonna be cheap. At a bare minimum you’re gonna need a press, powder, primers, projectiles, and that brass you’ve been so diligently saving. Oh, might as well throw in a reloading manual. Those DEFINITELY come in handy.
Volume? Shoot 100 rounds a month? It’ll take you a lifetime just to recoup the costs of the press, never mind the components. Don’t expect reloading to be some magic pill for rising ammo costs - remember that sourcing components can be an ever bigger hassle!
Time and Labor - how much free time do you have to sit around after work? Reloading your own ammo takes patience to learn, and constant attention to ensure you’re producing a safe round each time. This isn’t a mindless activity while you watch TV.
The reality is that most people who get into reloading don’t do it for the cost savings. We do it because we love the sport. We want to ensure that each time we go out we are performing our best, knowing that each round we inspected, weighed, and gauged. More than anything else, it’s fun! Some say therapeutic.
Will it save you money? Probably not. But that’s no reason to not do it anyways! We make it even easier here for you to do that. Our brass is already perfectly sized to SAAMI specifications, deprimed, a nice reaming job done to the primer pocket to ensure your priming is smooth, and then polished to a high shine.
